2010 Catholic Social Services Australia National Conference

The Catholic Social Services Australia 2010 national conference was held in Canberra from 8-10 February 2010.  The first two days form the 'Open' section of the Conference with Day 3, 10 February 2010 being reserved for the members.  Catholic Social Services Australia also held its Annual General Meeting at this time.

The theme of the 2010 conference was Review and Reform: Where to from here?

Some Key presenters at the Conference included:  Dr Richard Denniss, the Australia Institute; Professor Peter Shergold, Centre for Social Impact; Professor John McMillan, Commonwealth Ombudsman (at the time of the Conference); and, Fr Frank Brennan, SJ, AO, Professor of Law, Public Policy Institute, ACU to name only four out of a program of 27 presentations over 2 days.

Launch of CSSA's Social Inclusion Paper

The Conference program also included the launch of the CSSA discussion paper The Social Inclusion Agenda - Where it came from, what it means, and why it matters .  The paper was launched at a Parliamentary Breakfast in Canberra on 10 February.  In his speech at the Launch, CSSA Board member Bishop Pat Power said the paper shows us the way towards making Australia a more inclusive and accepting society where every person belongs with dignity.  Fr Joe Caddy, Chair of the CSSA Board then presented an opening address to a delegation of politicians and directors and senior staff from CSSA member organisations.

2010 McCosker Oration

A Highlight of the Conference program was the 2010 McCosker Oration delivered by Fr Frank Brennan sj AO, Professor of Law, Australian Catholic University.
