Awarding our Member Organisations for their hard work, innovation and dedication

Released:
30/05/2002
Release Number:
11/02

The Board of Catholic Welfare Australia wishes to announce the establishment of the Catholic Welfare Australia Awards.

The Awards are designed to: recognise and promote the work of Catholic Welfare Australia and its Member Organisations; highlight achievements; encourage excellence; and, affirm the importance of the work of Member Organisations.

“Whilst our national network is extremely strong and the internal affirmation of areas of excellence exists the informality of it seems to carry less clout,” said the National Director of Catholic Welfare Australia, Mr Toby O’Connor.  “The Board wanted to formally recognise the outstanding efforts and achievements by Member Organisations and individuals by holding an annual Awards program in which the results will be announced at Catholic Welfare Australia’s Annual Conference.”

The establishment of the Awards has been made possible with the assistance of Catholic Church Insurances Ltd (CCI) who will assume the role of Official Sponsor.

“Being an active part of the Church family is important to Catholic Church Insurances.  The company looks for opportunities where we can assist other Church entities or groups to further the mission of the Church,” said Mr Peter Rush, General Manager of Catholic Church Insurances.  “We are pleased to support the Catholic Welfare Australia Awards and in supporting the peak body for the Catholic welfare sector, Catholic Church Insurances fulfils our vision ‘to work in partnership with the Church in all areas of its mission’.”

Three Awards will be offered:  Award for Excellence in Service (Organisational); Award for Excellence in Service (Individual) – The Perkins Award; Award for Most Innovative Program.  Each award recipient will receive a cash prize of $750.00 and a commemorative trophy/plaque.

The results of the Catholic Welfare Australia Awards will be announced in a ceremony to be held during the Official Dinner of the Annual Conference of Catholic Welfare Australia taking place in Sydney from 19-23 August this year.
