Social Housing Forum

National Forum - A New Era for Social Housing

On 22 April 2009, Catholic Social Services Australia, Catholic Health Australia and St Vincent de Paul hosted a forum in Sydney to provide information on the government's new social housing initiatives. The forum, "A New Era for Social Housing" provided an opportunity to hear the latest detail on these developments, network with potential partner organisations and develop a coordinated response from your agency and our sector.

Catholic and other agencies working in the health, aged care, community and welfare sectors were invited to attend this important national forum. In particular, organisations concerned with housing for people on low incomes, older people, those in insecure housing and the homeless were particularly encouraged to attend.

The Fedral Minister for Housing, Tanya Pebersek, Julian Disney of the National Housing Summit, St Vincent de Paul CEO, John Falzon, and CHA CEO Martin Laverty were among those who addressed attendees at the forum to help provide answers on how Church and charitable agencies can help house those who would otherwise miss out.

Ms Pilbersek told the forum the Government has made a once-in-a-generation investment in social housing - opening up opportunities for those in the sector to access new funds to help the disadvantaged. She suggested that smaller providers consider partnering with their bigger counterparts to better access the funding pool.
